Living the American Dream Reality

September 24th, 2009 in Interesting by Greg Jeffries

What American Dream? Oh, you mean picking up garbage and flipping hamburgers forty hours a week, then having to take on another shitty side job on top of the one I already hate, just to make ends meat? Wow, when I was a little kid, I never knew being a grown up could be so fun.

Living the American Dream

I love watching those inspirational movies and shows about highly successful people – but I’m always curious about the ‘based on a true story’ line they always flash before the feature presentation begins. How loosely are these stories based? Because if you follow what 75-90% of the rest of America is doing to get by, that’s just what you’ll do – just get by. The reality is that to succeed in life you must know people. Do not put your time and energy into trying to earn money. Yes, money is a form of power, but it’s value is only limited to what we give to it. Pick and least one thing in life and be the best at it, then start networking like crazy. Knowing people can get you into places and provide opportunities that no amount of currency can buy.

So, over the years I’ve found that by either knowing people or working your ass off to meet these connections and network is the ultimate key to success. Don’t be fooled by the illusion of the ‘American Dream’ – it’s only real for those who pour their hearts into what they’re doing, actively pursue their dream, and happen to be in the right place at the right time – usually because they knew someone who knew someone else.

My suggestions to you, is that if you want to be successful in life and have everything you ever want, do what makes you happy. It sounds so simple yet few people ever actually achieve it. And most that do, wait their wholes lives to realize that they could have started doing it fifty years earlier – they we just afraid. If you think back to when you were a kid and try to remember what it was that you were most happy doing or what strength came naturally to you – pursue that, and you’ll never have to read another self-help book again in your life.

We know they all say the same thing. They’re all telling you what I’m suggesting to you now for free. And they’re usually written by people who have know this information for years and are looking to get rich off innocent, hopeless people thinking what’s inside that book is going to be the answer to all their life’s problems. All you have to do is Ask yourself what it is you want, Believe you will get it, then, eventually, you will Receive what you asked for. Our minds are that powerful – it naturally works to make our hopes and dreams reality. I leave you with what your parents probably told you as a child – believe in yourself, follow your dreams, and you can be anything in life you want to be.

If you’re the type who needs a little nudge to help you get started on your pathway to success, I recommend these three books: The Science of Getting Rich, The Secret, and The 4-Hour Workweek.
